Healthy Comes in All Shapes and Sizes

Contrary to popular belief, you don't necessarily have to be a size two in order to be healthy. Surprisingly, there are a great deal of people out there, women in particular, who starve themselves- who are bulimic or anorexic just so that they can "look" good. However, they may look great but their health may be awful. Many of these women stress themselves out over trying to be someone else. As a result, they may have high blood pressure or be anemic.

Perhaps the greatest example of a woman who is healthy and exudes confidence is Queen Latifah. In recent years, Queen Latifah has been embraced by the media (and by Covergirl) as a fantastic plus-size model. She is gorgeous and healthy AND she's not a size 0! The problem that a lot of women have is this image that the media often portrays of how women should look. We get our daily dose of it whether or not we want it. For instance, anytime you turn on the television, you see or hear reports of the latest female celebrity who has just gotten pregnant. The media will show pictures and constantly update the listeners on the physical status of this woman. Then after she gives birth, the media is still close on her tail to report how much weight she lost after she had the baby. Just look at Halle Berry! When Halle Berry had her first child, the media swarmed her only months after she delivered her baby to congratulate her on all of the weight that she had lost. She looked incredible and everyone wanted to know how she had done it. What were her secrets?

Never for an instant would anyone ever suggest that it might've been ok for her to weigh a little more. What if Halle Berry had turned around and told the media that she preferred to put on a little extra weight? Not in Hollywood! In Hollywood, beauty seems to be equated with how thin you are. Only in recent years have we begun to see a slight shift in this thinking with stars such as Jennifer Hudson, and even Renee Zellwinger. Women need to realize that they can still be beautiful with a little extra weight on them.

If you go to any doctor's office, your doctor will be able to tell you what a woman of your age should weigh given how tall you are as well as what age bracket you fall into. There are plenty of gentlemen out there who find plus-size women attractive. In a lot of cases, plus-size women have a lot more confidence than their skinny counterparts because they are more comfortable in their skin. Granted, there is a difference between being plus-size and being obese. Too often we get the two confused when we just lump them together. But there is a difference. Plus size women are healthy and love their bodies. They carry themselves well and they make no apologies for who they are, and that is something that we can all learn a lesson from!
